The digital laboratory

To meet the demands of a changing market, the development and optimisation of chemical processes need to be made more efficient. Modern process development requires modern tools, and the solution lies in smart sensors and better systems for sophisticated data analysis.

At RISE, we have a unique combination of expertise in chemical process development, data management and sensor systems. Through our digital process development laboratory, knowledge generated during chemical process development can be taken advantage of, refined, and utilised both in the process optimisation phase and during production. We collect data from observations made my chemists, process sensors, online and offline analyses, and metadata. We also control the equipment and monitor our experiments digitally and in real time.

We have centralised data collection from a wide range of laboratory equipment – in this way, data can be stored and managed more easily. It provides opportunities for new visualisation and analysis methods, new report formats, for monitoring ongoing experiments and from many different experiments at the same time, even remotely. Furthermore, the digital tools give us new opportunities to receive data from our customers and to provide our customers with more and better data from the work we do on their behalf.

There is much we can do to streamline the chemical process using the new knowledge we can generate from smarter collected data and from smart sensors. We can overcome numerous challenges, such as upscaling problems and the efficient transfer of a chemical process from one facility to another.

In the video above you will learn more about our connected flow reactor Kon-Tiki, which is part of our digital laboratory.
