Contact LarsPulp production plays a central role in the bioeconomy, the transition towards a fossil-free society, and circular processes. The main part of the fiber line is the pulp mill, where wood is treated with chemicals to produce pulp with exposed fibers, and for certain applications, the pulp is subsequently bleached.
Pulp technology at RISE supports research and development to meet the industry's constantly changing needs and challenges, as well as stricter requirements from authorities and customers. The focus is on developing sustainable and cost-effective process solutions throughout the value chain, from various raw materials, including recycled materials, to pulp for various purposes.
RISE works on improving existing processes for pulp cooking, oxygen delignification, bleaching, and developing new processes for pulp production. Optimizing processes for maximum raw material utilization, chemical savings, energy, water efficiency, and continuous reduction of environmental footprint are at the core of research and development.
With extensive experience in chemical pulp production (cooking and bleaching), access to modern equipment, and qualified specialists, RISE facilitates testing of ideas, laboratory and pilot-scale demonstrations, and accelerates implementation and troubleshooting on an industrial scale. The field of dissolving pulp includes both manufacturing and evaluation of the pulp for different applications. The main application is the viscose process but there are also other processes for regenerating the cellulose and different types of cellulose derivatives. This field also includes modification of fibers such as pulp fibers, natural fibers such as cotton and recycled textile fibers.
The expertise in the field includes process optimization of the chemical pulping process, the viscose process and subsequent spinning process as well as treatment of fibers for more efficient modification and improved dissolution of the cellulose.
With an increased population, sanitary products are used to a greater extent. Producers for fluff pulp can at RISE optimize and develop the process and product, both for the environment and the user, and performing a quality assessment of the original pulp can be part of that work.
