Contact ElenaResidual products from Swedish forestry are seen as potential source for production of green fuels and chemicals. In this project, a forestry residual product is used as bio-feedstock and converted into bio-crudes either via pyrolysis or HTL processes. The bio-oils are further upgraded into green products by conventional refinery technology FCC.
This project is aimed to contribute to the sustainable production of green fuels and chemicals to support a demand of sustainable alternatives to petroleum products. This is done through an experimental investigation of upgrading bio-based crude oils produced from residual products of the southern Swedish forest industry together with fossil feed in a fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) process. The FCC unit at RISE is a lab-scale version of the commercial refinery process where gasoline and aromatic hydrocarbons are produced. The aim of the project is to generate valuable knowledge for companies interested in commercializing processes of biomass liquefaction with purpose of producing bio-feedstock for the existing upgrading technologies.
