Democratic storytelling

The Thriving North toolkit serves in building and communicating the story of the North of Sweden. This story is not one story. It is an always evolving, ever-changing narrative.

It is meant for supporting municipalities in collecting local stories and show the multifaceted identities and ways of living; it has been developed in the frame of the Thriving North project: a governmental assignment to Viable Cities to support the innovation work in sustainable urban and community transformation in Norrbotten and Västerbotten. 

Shaped by those who live here, have lived here, or could live here in the future. Thriving North developed the idea of democratic storytelling.

Giving equal space to pluralistic, non-homogenous ways of sharing individual stories that together form a narrative. The project does this through a manifesto, a toolbox and a prototype digital platform.

Thriving North has been designed by Rosa Van der Veen, Jeroen Peeters, Tisha Hupkes and Rebecca Lindmark.
