Determination of HF in battery electrolyte using titration

HF in battery electrolyte is formed when water hydrolyses e.g. LiPF6. HF is seen as a contaminant and gives lower capacity of the battery and destroys certain electrode materials. We perform several determinations of fluorine species including HF in electrolyte.

Purpose

HF in electrolyte is one of the battery-related measurements we perform. HF is seen as a contaminante in the context of batteries and is often included in the specification for a new or recycled electrolyte. HF is determined using cooled titration and a pH electrode for detection.
