Print sharpness measurement

Print sharpness is a factor of immediate importance in inkjet printing due to the inherent risk of lateral spread of the low viscosity inks used. High print sharpness is a basic characteristic of high print quality.

Purpose

Measurement of Print sharpness can be used to:

  • Check if the print raggedness and blurriness is acceptable and stable over time
  • Benchmark to competitors
  • Monitor how new settings in the productions affect the print raggedness and blurriness
  • Check if new products are better or not

Method

Quantify the print sharpness using high resolution images from a microscope or professional scanner.
The measurements are not restricted to a certain print form, instead any printed line or edge can be used for the analysis, for example part of a letter.
Two different properties are calculated:

  • The raggedness which is the length of the contour of an edge compared to the perfect straight contour
  • The blurriness meaning the width of the transition zone between ink and unprinted area

Image analysis is used to calculate the raggedness and the blurriness on the measured lines and shapes.

Deliveries

  • The raggedness which is the length of the contour of an edge compared to the perfect straight contour
  • The blurriness meaning the width of the transition zone between ink and unprinted area.

Results delivered as an Excel file.

Service

Measurement of Print sharpness – a combination of raggedness and blurriness

Price

Price on tender

Delivery time

Delivery within 3 weeks after receiving the printed samples

Preparations

Send the samples to us.
The samples should by inkjet printed using black, magenta or cyan color or other quite dark color.
Also black on yellow color works (color on color).
The printed areas can consist of lines or squares. If lines are printed, it can be valuable to print the lines both vertical and horizontal to the print direction.
