Contact ToveIn 2023, the Danish research group in the FIRE21 project has been working with data gathering for work package 2, Benchmarking Network-Based Problem-Solving in the Fire and Rescue Services (FRS). Two case studies have been conducted. The collected data material consists of reports, case descriptions and qualitative interviews.
This case study was conducted in a large, urban FRS operating in an urban environment. The operational resources consist of professional firefighters and close cooperation with firefighters from neighbouring FRS. The case concerns a severe fire situation in a residential building complex from the 1930s. Due to strong wind and unexpected design factors in the building, the fire spread was swift. This resulted in a long-lasting emergency situation. Unfortunately, the building could not be saved, but no residents were harmed.
This case study investigated a train collision caused by a container misplacement arising from a strong wind on a bridge. Here, a passenger train collided with the container, which resulted in the death and injuries of several passengers. The case is very well documented, and the analysis focuses on the reported interactions of the FRS. The FRS had been pre-warned during the day due to the prevailing meteorological conditions.
