National Center for Sustainable Plastics
The National Center for Sustainable Plastics creates, collects and disseminates knowledge about sustainable polymeric materials and brings together industry, academia, institutes and industry organizations with the goal of jointly achieving freedom from fossil fuels through world-leading development and production.
Given that polymeric materials in today's products must meet higher requirements than before, with the right circular properties, this results in great expectations for material and machine manufacturers today. Which is both a challenge and an opportunity for strengthened competitiveness for the Swedish plastics industry. In the process of replacing traditional plastics with sustainable alternatives, without compromising function and quality, many questions arise.
- How are existing processes adapted to the new sustainable materials?
- How do we best use digital tools to, for example, ensure traceability through the entire value chain?
- What do business models and forms of cooperation look like that are needed to solve the complex challenges we face and need to solve together?
- How can we validate and certify materials and products from a sustainability perspective?
As an independent third party, where total transparency or strict confidentiality can be applied, cross-border cooperation between the actors of the plastic value chain is enabled with the common goal of achieving freedom from fossil fuels and strengthening the market position of the Swedish plastics industry. Here you can get support through all steps - from setting requirements to product launch - to ensure sustainability from an environmental as well as an economic, social and functional perspective.
Do you need our help?
Among our customers and partners are the lone entrepreneur as well as the multinational company, as well as municipal and state companies in need of research into a sustainable plastic product. We see that there is a great need for new solutions in everything from circular business models to resource use, product design, process optimization, certifications and labels. No matter how big or small your question, we can adapt our knowledge to your needs.
What do we offer?
We can help where needed, regardless of where in the value chain you are, through direct assignments, co-financed development projects or publicly funded research projects. For example, existing processes can be adapted or tested as new sustainable materials. We use our digital tools to ensure traceability through the entire value chain and can also validate and certify materials and products from a sustainability perspective. By working with different business models and forms of cooperation, we can solve complex challenges and thus help you navigate forward to move forward in the process, without compromising on function and quality.
With our collaboration between industry, academia and institutes, we generate new knowledge and ensure that we work in the center with state-of-the-art materials, processes and methods. With a scientific basis and many years of experience, we have thus built up a project portfolio with research and development projects. This distinguishes us from other players - we offer both long-term research and hands-on testing and development.
