Contact KatarinaConcrete is the most frequently used building material. Worldwide, 30 billion ton is used every year for buildings, tunnels, bridges and roads. The material is basically maintenance-free, fire safe and has a long lifecycle. The environmental challenge lies in its production. The manufacture of Portland cement, an important component in concrete, contributes to 95 percent of the concrete total carbon dioxide emission. Cement alone stands for 6 percent of the world total CO2 emission.
RISE focuses on minimising impact of concrete on the climate, and on increasing functionality and service life. We offer support regarding development of alternative cementitious materials and concrete, durability, and design of new concrete products and constructions. We also study aspects such as material development, building techniques, energy efficiency, acoustics, vibrations, humidity and indoor environment. We can perform customised tests and analysis, and we are also accredited to prepare CE certifications.
