Dependable electronic systems - IEC 61508
This two-day course in standard IEC 61508 covers the requirements for both systems - hardware and software - in detail. The aim is that participants shall acquire sufficient understanding of IEC 61508 and how it is structured. This will enable self-sufficient work.
Goal and purpose
To gain an understanding of the most essential parts of IEC 61508 and to provide a sufficiently detailed knowledge. This will enable you to proceed and apply the standard yourself.

Hardware Designers, Programmers, Test Engineers, System Engineers, Project Managers, Product Managers, Quality Managers, Operations and Maintenance Personnel.
Content
Initially, the course covers general concepts and establishes how the standard can be applied. The course includes, among other things, the following parts:
- Going through the connection between IEC 61508 and various industry standards
- A description of which phases included in the so-called Safety Life Cycle
- A description of the requirements on Safety Management determined by the standard
- A review of the requirements of the standard applied to independent 3rd party review of the safety circuit
- Risk analysis and identification of safety functions
- Definition of safety requirement specification
- Hardware design
- Reliability calculations of hardware (e.g., determination of PFHd, PFD and SFF)
- Software engineering
- Verification and validation
- Operation & maintenance of safety functions
The course theory is alternated with practical examples
