The National Laboratory for Chemical Metrology

RISE is the National Metrology Institute of Sweden and is responsible, through its National Laboratories, for the fundamental measurement quantities in the International System of Units SI.

At the national laboratory for chemical metrology, we work with measurement quality and quality assurance in the chemical area. We develop sampling and measurement methods and guidelines for measurements from Eurachem, among others. Collaboration with other laboratories, interest organisations and authorities around the world is important to promote the development of a structured metrology system in the field of chemistry, both nationally and internationally.

International comparison measurements

We are constantly developing measurement methods that respond to industry and society's needs for quality-assured measurements. We conduct experimental activities around reference measurements, for example determination of elements, characterisation of ultrapure water and in energy gases. We collaborate with other leading institutes worldwide in various research projects and regularly participate in international comparison measurements to ensure the quality of our measurements.

We offer:

  • Quality assured measurements in energy gases.
  • Training of laboratory personnel through courses in measurement uncertainty, method validation and quality control.
  • Development of methods for elemental analysis, including specification of constituent elements.
  • Calibration of conductivity instruments for ultrapure water and liquids with high salinity.
