PET from sorting plants in Scandinavia will be used circularly by becoming a new product.
Simulations and LCA are important tools
Through the project's experiments for scaling up, iterative process simulations and environmental impact calculations with LCA, a process with the lowest possible greenhouse gas emissions will be proposed. This means minimized operation costs which is a prerequisite for a financially feasible solution.
Development of applications
The project's purpose is also to position the chemical BHET on the market and develop applications in binders for paint and varnish, in the plasticizer segment and as a monomer for specific grades of PET. The production of BHET in volumes to demonstrate its competitiveness and the cooperation in the supply chain provide the conditions for the development required to create demand in the market as well as give a markedly increased durability to a number of products, whose raw material will be recycled. This fulfills the purpose of achieving sustainable resource use and getting closer to a circular economy.
A plan for industrialization
The project includes designing a timed plan for industrialization with management of raw materials, process selection, techno-economic analysis and business model, REACH registration, permit and impact analysis, and investment application.
