IoT Low Energy

IoT Low Energy looks at zero and low energy sensor networks reinforced by AI and machine learning.

Background

If the vision of the Internet of Things (IoT) or the Internet of Everything is to be realised, it is important to investigate the possibilities of operating sensors and systems of sensors using methods for energy harvesting, so-called Zero Energy IoT. However, this is not realistic in all applications, but it is important to design cost-effective systems, so-called Low Energy IoT. Networks of sensors will give rise to data streams. By analyzing these data streams with methods such as machine learning, it will be possible, among other things, to predict behaviors. This background has given rise to the project idea that links systems of low-energy sensors and advanced data analysis such as AI.

Another important issue is the life cycle analysis of the whole and parts of the system, including the product cycle of constituent materials. So-called green electronics or green IoT is an important issue for the future.

Project goals

Define what we can do with a variety of distributed sensors in combination with AI.

The focus during the first years will be applied research at a lower TRL level. This is to increase cutting-edge competence and identify new technological opportunities. During the last part of the project, the focus will be on raising the TRL of the best opportunities in order to be of industrial benefit within a reasonable time frame and to not be too far from innovation skills.
