Contact EmanuelaIn a product service system (PSS), the product is owned by the producers (or supplier). Instead of buying the product, the customer pays for its use or function, so that the PSS provider has an incentive to maximise the use of the product, in particular throughout its life cycle.
PSS models and their role in circular transformation are being evaluated in a project funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers.
Norion Consult (former PlanMiljø), in collaboration with Norsus, VTT, Environice, RISE, Vito and IIIEE, has been commissioned to investigate the opportunities and challenges that may arise in a transition from traditional product sales to PSS.
The project will focus in particular on ensuring that PSS models in the Nordic region can achieve an increase in sustainable, resource-efficient and competitive production in the Nordic countries. A focus on existing PSS in the Nordic region is an important part of the project. In addition, different models will be pilot tested to identify strengths and weaknesses of different approaches to PSS.
Finally, evaluations of the pilot projects, recommendations for facilitating PSS in the Nordic region, and the implications and potential of PSS as a way to increase circularity in the Nordic region will be included as part of the report to the Nordic Council of Ministers.
