Renewable and reusable feedstock for the Swedish chemical industry
The project will create general knowledge that enables a technological leap towards the use of renewable and reusable feedstock for gasification in the chemical industry. Examples of materials investigated: pyrolysis oil from used tires, recycled lubricating oils, and pyrolysis oil from forestry biomass.
The project aims to characterize the gasification process and investigate which operating conditions result in the best yield, efficiency, emission levels and profitability. Experimental results are a prerequisite for improved cost and profitability estimates. These constitute important input data as a decision basis for a possible future implementation. Implementation of the concept is considered for creating a sustainable and resource-efficient system in the near term in the form of physical exchanges of material and residual streams between Swedish companies. At the same time, the new process is expected to reduce the industry's emissions of greenhouse gases. In the slightly longer term, it is estimated that the results from the project could benefit other industries, for example the forest industry and the fossil-free steel industry, which further strengthens the CO2 reduction potential.
