The SINUS project aims to increase knowledge of the potential of public organizations to make their material flows more efficient and circular through procurement and procurement procedures that promote efficiency and sharing.

The SINUS project aims to increase knowledge about the potential of public organizations to make their material flows more efficient and circular through procurement and procurement procedures that promote efficiency and sharing.

The project will be implemented by Malmö City's environmental management in collaboration with RISE. Other administrations within Malmö will also participate as study objects or experts. In SINUS, Malmö City's purchasing and waste flows will be mapped and analyzed to identify opportunities for increased reuse and recycling of resources, focusing on a number of product groups selected at an early stage.

Based on previous research, a method adapted to analyze resource use in public organizations will be developed and applied. The role of the budget process in promoting circular resource management will also be examined, with regard to barriers in today's systems and opportunities for change. In addition, the project will investigate whether and how the means saved through better management can be used for measures that directly benefit the city's employees, as well as the Malmö residents in general.

The results will be presented in a proposal for a circular roadmap for the City of Malmö, as well as a supplementary method description to disseminate to other public organizations through various networks and digital channels.

SINUS is expected to contribute to social benefit through increased economic, ecological as well as social sustainability within Malmö's operations, as well as inspire and facilitate other public activities to follow.
