Systems-of-systems Research and Innovation Agenda

Systems-of-systems (SoS) is an area of increasing importance as the digital transformation of society continues. To better understand the challenges that exist and the efforts required in the form of research and innovation, RISE has led the work of developing a strategic agenda for SoS.

This project aimed to develop a strategic research and innovation agenda for the area systems-of-systems (SoS). The agenda was developed during the first half of 2015 in a project led by RISE and with the participation of a large number of representatives from industry and academia.

The agenda identifies principles for SoS and areas of use in different sectors of society. Furthermore, a number of key challenges are elicited where new knowledge needs to be built:

  • Theoretical foundations
  • Socio-technical aspects
  • Architecture
  • Modeling and simulation
  • Interoperability
  • Trustworthiness
  • Business and legal aspects
  • Processes and methods
  • Standardization

The project also conducted a survey of the research front in Sweden and internationally, and identified proposals for measures to strengthen Sweden's capability in the field, related to research, education and social initiatives.
