Contact AnnTextile materials that are washed often change shape and size. This change can be both increase in size or decrease in size (shrinkage). The magnitude of this change is crucial to the function of the material.
The aim of the method is to determine the dimensional change of textile materials when subjected to washing and drying.
When testing dimensional change in washing and drying, the suitable washing temperature and drying process for the material is checked. This can then be used as a basis for, among other things, care labeling. In case of complaints, it is then possible to check whether the care instructions have been followed.
The material is conditioned in standard climate in our textile lab and 1-3 samples of garments or fabric are measured before and after washing and drying. Dimensional change expressed in % is calculated.
The number of measurements and their position are described in standard SS-EN ISO 3759 (Preparation, marking and measuring of fabric specimens and garments in tests for determination of dimensional change).
Washing and drying is carried out according to, for example, household washing method SS-EN ISO 6330 or industrial washing method SS-EN ISO 15797.
