RISE supports Swedish companies in their innovation efforts by developing competitive solutions that drive sustainable development forward. As part of this mission, the Fiber Development unit is seeking an experienced and driven research scientist with expertise in synthetic fibers and their applications.
About Us
At our facility in Mölndal, we host Sweden's largest laboratory for fiber development. Here, we create the fiber materials of tomorrow, focusing on functionality, sustainability, and resource efficiency. Our team offers a test and demonstration environment with associated expertise in textile fiber development, used for projects related to optimization, validation, and research. We have extensive expertise in melt spinning, from producing textile fibers using bio-based or recycled raw materials to developing high-performance and specialty fibers.

About the Position
With us, you will lead and advance the field of melt-spun fiber materials by initiating or collaborating on research projects and applied research and development assignments with industrial customers. You will be an essential team player in an engaged unit with cutting-edge expertise that values close collaboration, both within the team and with our customers and partners.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the research area and team around melt spinning by:
- Developing strategies
- Expanding our technology infrastructure
- Ideating and innovating
- Building internal and external networks
- Engaging with customers and partners
- Initiating new projects and assignments
- Directly participating in experimental work
Who Are You?
To succeed in this role, you should have extensive knowledge and experience in fiber material development, particularly related to melt spinning or melt-spun fibers, and understand how fiber properties affect the functions of textile materials. You are motivated by developing new fiber materials based on societal challenges and customer needs.
We are looking for someone driven by building relationships, creating collaborations, expanding the research area of melt-spun fibers, and developing services for our customers and partners. You enjoy customer interactions and networking and have a natural ability to establish trust and credibility. With an eye for new opportunities, you excel at nurturing relationships and developing long-term collaborations. As a proactive and self-sufficient individual, you also thrive in a team environment. You stay actively updated on the research front and industry needs and see opportunities to create new collaborations in technology and material development.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in materials science, polymer technology, textile technology, or a relevant field, or equivalent competence
- 10+ years of experience in material development within melt-spun fiber-based materials
- Proficiency in English
Meritorious
- Experience in team/project leadership
- Experience in applying for funding and grants
- Specialist knowledge in melt spinning
- Proficiency in Swedish
