Contact AnwarBatteries are vital in securing the transition to a fossil-free, electrified society. Finding sustainable material solutions is crucial – accessing critical raw materials and developing new, high-performance, sustainable material solutions.
Supply of raw materials to the battery industry, developing new battery materials, and improving existing battery chemistries are essential focus areas for RISE. We develop and work with cathode and anode materials, as well as optimization of electrolytes and additives. You will also find advanced research and development work with bio-based electrodes and printed electronics with us.
RISE expertise in battery materials mainly focuses on:
We can support the development and testing of active materials for various types of batteries, including conventional lithium-ion batteries, high-voltage Li-ion batteries, solid-state batteries, and dual-ion batteries. We have expertise in the entire value chain, from synthesis chemistries for active materials to novel bio-based feedstocks, binders, separators, and electrolytes.

Explore various electrode formulations and processing customized to different battery chemistries with us. With multi-scale options, ranging from milligram scale material concept testing to kilogram scale electrode process optimization, we can support with exploration and verification of new feedstocks and slurry formulations. We can also support a range of coating methods for lab-scale to roll-to-roll electrode fabrication processes. Working with RISE, you can have access to the full spectrum of material characterization and analysis. Contact us for support with the characterization and validation of your manufacturing process at each step.

An increased demand for batteries leads to an increased need for innovation-critical metals and minerals. Future scenarios show that needs will multiply at the same time as competition for the materials increases from other parts of the world. Linked to this are a number of sustainability challenges that RISE helps to address through various services and expertise such as life cycle analysis, feasibility studies and material flow and sustainability analyses.

In the area of printed and organic electronics for energy storage, RISE can provide a wide range of services such as R&D of new materials and devices; expert services in all matters related to printed electronics such as ink development, device/circuit designs, printing production and system integration; testing of energy storage materials and devices (e.g. electrochemical testing, measurement of ionic and electronic conduction, battery testing, climate testing, etc.)
Beyond our activities in development, manufacturing, and testing of batteries, one of our core expertises is hybrid printed electronics sensors and actuators which can be made thin and flexible. These systems can be used for power management, sensing (e.g. temperature), and actuation (e.g. heating) of battery systems to maintain optimum performance. With printed electronics, unique formfactors can be achieved which might be suitable for large or small battery systems.
