At RISE, we have the resources and expertise to produce cast components in iron, steel, aluminium and copper alloys in sand moulds. We can also assist with simulation of the cast processes and thereby minimize the risk of defects in the finished component.
When casting components, a great deal of knowledge is needed about how the material behaves in the molten state, melt treatments before casting and how the mould should look to minimize the risk of defects in the finished component. In addition to developing the physical cast component, we can assist with e.g. casting simulation and support with process audit.
Process optimization
We use several different software to simulate the casting processes. The programs are used for example for designing the ingate system and secure that the mould is filled in a way that minimise the risk for defects in the component. How the mould is filled, and solidification of the component will be influenced by, among other things, the mould material, chosen alloy and desired geometry. Simulation also gives an indication of where there is risk of any casing defects.
We can also assist with process audit at the foundry. We have experience of going through foundry processes and giving suggestions for improvement work. We also perform several environmental services such as permit applications, periodic examination, waste classification etc.
Development and production of cast Components
In our foundry, we can produce cast components in iron, steel, aluminium and copper base alloys. The sand mould is produced either by hand moulding or by using additive manufacturing, i.e. 3D-printing, of the moulds. This gives us great freedom in designing components. At an early stage of the design phase or to test a concept, it can be of great value to be able to quickly obtain a physical component.
Collaboration and projects within component casting and process optimization
We work close to the foundry industry and its customers in both publicly funded projects and in customer-specific assignments. We also have many scheduled courses in the area and can also customize courses based on specific requirements.
