Circular Textile Innovations

Circular Textile Innovations (Sweden) - Sustainable system change in the textile industry.

Swedish innovations can become global solutions for a the textile industry. BioInnovation is now making a major textile investment. The goal is to contribute to a more sustainable textile industry and increase Sweden's importance in the area.

Purpose and goal

The goal is to bring about a fundamental change in how textiles can become circular in Sweden, by addressing points in the value chain that can provide leverage.

Challenge

The textile industry is facing major changes. Both the EU's forthcoming textile strategy and the Swedish producer responsibility mean that we will need to take care of our obsolete textiles and switch to new sustainable circular materials.

Solution

The project addresses critical points in the value chain in three subprojects:

  • The subproject Innovative fiber blends and yarn spinning techniques investigates new alternatives to fiber blends and new yarn spinning techniques.
  • The sub-project Chemical recycling of regenerated fibers (MMCF) will study sorting techniques, handling of dyes and various recycling processes.
  • The sub-project Mechanical textile recycling - Roadmap for Swedish process capacity will produce a roadmap that will contribute to a well-functioning circular ecosystem for textile waste and reduce the use of fossil raw materials.

Effect

The innovation project will contribute to a circular, non-toxic and bio-based textile value chain in Sweden.
