Through qualitative studies, interviews, and a policy lab, tools are developed to create more integrated and sustainable urban development processes.
The project aims to strengthen municipalities' capacity to manage the complex transition toward sustainable societal development through enhanced leadership and coordination. The study specifically focuses on municipal strategists driving cross-sectoral transition efforts and seeks to develop a deeper understanding of their roles and challenges.
To strengthen municipalities' capacity for transition, the project will conduct qualitative studies analyzing how strategic work is carried out at the municipal level. By examining organizational barriers and conditions for cross-sectoral collaboration, the study aims to develop tools and methods that support the integration of different governance logics within urban development processes.
RISE is participating in the study, contributing expertise in process management and innovation support, and collaborating with Chalmers University of Technology, the University of Gothenburg, Lund University, Borås Municipality, and Ale Municipality to test new approaches and methods for municipalities' transition work. Through a combination of interviews, dialogue seminars, and practical tests, the study aims to generate new knowledge on how leadership and coordination can be improved to support sustainable community development at the local level.
The project is expected to provide a foundation for improving municipalities' strategic work and supporting a more effective, democratic, and transparent implementation of local political objectives.
