Contact IngegerdSmoking in sofas and armchairs can be a cause of fires. The ignitability of furnitures is an important feature to consider when evaluating fire risks. These standards specify test methods to assess the ignitability of material combinations such as cover and fillings intended to be used for upholstered seating, when subjected to smoldering cigarette
The methods aim to evaluate the ignitability of material combinations such as cover and fillings intended to be used for upholstered seating.
The ability of upholstered seating to be easy ignited provides a basis for assessing its suitability for use in certain environments. Different requirements may apply in different types of environments. These methods are useful for evaluating ignitability of material combinations in upholstered furniture, both for home and public environments.
Method SS-EN 1021-1 and ISO 8191-1. An assembly is arranged to represent in stylized form a junction between a seat and back. The ignitability of an assembly is determined by applying smoldering cigarettes in the junction. The progress of combustion is observed and recorded of any evidence for progressive smoldering or flaming in the interior and/or cover within 1 hour. The extent of the damage must also not reach the edges or through the test body.
Method SS-EN 1021-2 and ISO 8191-2. An assembly is arranged to represent in stylized form a junction between a seat and back. The ignitability of an assembly is determined by applying a gas, match flame equivalent in the junction. The flame is removed after 15 s for method SS-EN 1021-2 and 20 s for method ISO 8191-2. The progress of combustion is observed and recorded of any evidence for progressive smoldering after 1 hour or flaming that continues for more than 120 s after removal of the burner tube. The extent of the damage must also not reach the edges or through the test body.
All fabrics that have been treated chemically with flameretardant shall be soaked and dried prior to testing in accordance with the procedure described in Appendix D, this applies to tests methods SS-EN 1021-1 and SS-EN 1021-2
