RED and Cybersecurity in focus!
04 October 2024, 17:46
On October 2, RISE held a seminar at Ideon Science Park in Lund where the Radio Directive (RED) and the upcoming Cyber security requirements were at the centre. The seminar attracted companies and stakeholders in the technology industry who wanted to deepen their knowledge of the upcoming regulations for radio equipment and cyber security. Interesting discussions and questions came from the active audience.
As digitalization accelerates, the threats from cyberattacks also increase, potentially affecting everything from machinery and cars to connected products. The EU's efforts to strengthen protection against cyber threats are central, with RED playing an important role in this endeavour. RED sets cybersecurity requirements for companies that manufacture, import, or distribute products containing radio components.
What do the changes in RED mean?
As of August 2025, all manufacturers of radio equipment must certify that their products also comply with the Cybersecurity requirements.
Until harmonized standards are in place, a Type-Examination Certificate issued by a Notified Body will be required for connected radio products to meet the new cybersecurity requirements.
RISE is a Notified Body for RED, including the cybersecurity requirements for RED, and can offer companies the opportunity to test and certify their products, such as connected industrial electronics, wireless access and alarm systems, and remote-controlled products. By testing and certifying their products with RISE, companies ensure that they are ready to meet the new requirements.
