Innovation from the field to future energy storage technologies

The FieldToEnergy project aims to conduct a proof-of-concept study to develop new technological solutions implementing green materials from the agricultural fields for the sustainable transition in the material design of anodes in LiB.

The project "Innovation from the field to future energy storage technologies" (FieldToEnergy) was recently granted by Lantmännen Research Foundation. A sustainable transition of the anode material proposed in this project is based on green manufacturing processes via the eco-friendly design and implementation of bio-based binders and carbonisation processes. This project aims at developing new bio-based binders as an alternative replacement to fossil-based and toxic ones, such as polyvinylidene fluoride and styrene-butadiene rubber copolymers, used today in the electrode assembly in LiB.

Moreover, this new binder and carbonisation concept has a good potential to enable usage of high-volume bio-based materials to facilitate the sustainable transformation in battery manufacturing.
