Exciting innovation reduces almost 100% of heavy metals from process water

The startup from Sundsvall, Nordic Renew Resource, is on its way to a breakthrough with its new method that purifies process water, sludge and soil masses from various heavy metals. - In our industrial network, this need exists. The positive results pave the way for an exciting development, says Bengt Aldén, project manager at RISE Processum.

With its method, Nordic Renew Resources, NRR, has focused on purifying process water from industries and municipalities. In the future, however, the method may be used on both sludge and soil masses to purify these from heavy metals.

Heavy metals have a major negative impact on the environment and are today considered a major environmental problem.

At Genesis Water Technologies in the USA, NRR recently carried out laboratory tests that showed fantastic results at a purification rate of up to 99%. These tests were made possible through financial support from VINNOVA.

To work further with the method, NRR is currently planning, together with Processum, a new full-scale test facility in Örnsköldsvik. There, the technology will be further developed in collaboration with industries and municipalities.

- Processum has extensive experience from other projects and to help get an innovation "to get ready to fly". It feels good to have them behind us in our development of innovation and to take the right steps and decisions for our development, says CEO Håkan Stegeby.

NRR is part of BizMaker's incubator program.

- NRR's support from Processum consists of us receiving extraordinary support for our innovation in technical issues and ideas, says Stegeby.

The next step in NRR's journey is to apply for a patent for its method, and then continue to work for a commercialization.
