Focus on the data center of the future: Åbo Akademi University and RISE begin collaboration

The rapid increase in digital services and the use of AI has led to the construction of data centers at a record pace. They account for a significant portion of global electricity consumption, which is expected to increase further in the coming years. Therefore, research on the data center of the future is of great importance to both drive digital development and support the green transition. Åbo Akademi University has entered into a collaboration agreement with Sweden's RISE for research on data centers and energy solutions.
The subject of the collaboration agreement with RISE, a state research institute where the ICE Datacenter unit conducts world-leading research in data centers, is information technology. The collaboration focuses on the research and projects that work to develop the energy-efficient data centers of the future and how to make them more sustainable and circular.
