RISE winner in the infrastructure category of Vinnova's innovation competition Vinter

With the pilot initiative Vinter, Vinnova wants to contribute to creating the conditions for securely sharing and using sensitive data and thus making it available for innovation. The focus is on health data with the aim of creating digital solutions and services for the benefit of people with diabetes, their relatives and healthcare staff. 

Since December 2021, 22 companies and organizations have developed ideas they brought with them into the competition and this has resulted in 16 competition entries. At the final on April 6 for Vinter, a pilot initiative for innovation with sensitive data, the RISE team received the first prize in the infrastructure category for their solution encrypted health data for AI. Cyber security through homomorphic encryption to support type 1 diabetes self-search for secure data sharing. 

At RISE, this work began with homomorphic encryption for cyberphysical systems with the application of data center control. The design of intelligent control algorithms can be costly and is an investment that must be protected against reverse engineering. It can be protected by running remotely from the cloud instead of locally on the equipment's hardware, but such an installation requires careful consideration of customer data confidentiality. 

Fully Homomorphic Encryption is an emerging technology that allows the computation on encrypted data and offers a solution that protects both customer data and the manufacturer's IPR.

The motivation of the jury:
With a solution that gives peace of mind and trust to both people with diabetes and legislators, it protects innovators' algorithms and limits unauthorized sharing or processing of data. The proposed infrastructure can both simplify changes in legislation and become a future building block in the administrative infrastructure. Congratulations RISE for Encrypted Health AI
