Great potential for data centers to be active in flex markets

"If we want a stable and sustainable electricity system, more actors must get involved. Data centers have all the conditions to contribute, but we need to lower the thresholds and create better incentives."
This is according to Jeanette Petersson, senior project manager at RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, who is one of the authors of the report "Data centers as flexibility capacity". Co-authors are Tina Stark and Jonas Gustafsson.
According to the report, many data centers in Sweden are currently outside Svenska kraftnät's support frequency flexibility service markets, even though they could be active thanks to batteries. But there is great potential for more operators to participate actively. One key is increased knowledge among both data center owners and their customers.
