Let's add some realism to the hype of AI Datacenters

DCD Connect in London brought together more than 3,000 senior leaders working on Europe’s largest data center projects, DCD>Connect | London drive industry collaboration, help forge new partnerships and identify innovative solutions to your core challenges.
It has grown from 400 attendees two years ago to current number due to the AI datacenter hype. There are crazy high predictions of energy demands, build out of infrastructure and use. It has created a forum for new innovations and bold moves. Many promise gold and solutions to everything without backing the claims with facts.
We at RISE were very active this year as well. Last year our presentation with real numbers and facts got a lot of attention. Our numbers showed up in presentations all around. This year we Jon Summers presented our Wedistrict urban edge project where we powered a liquid cooled datacenter with fuel cells and reused the heat from the combined heat and power SOFC plant.
Isabelle Kemlin was in two panels discussing power demands and solutions. First one about addressing the energy crisis in Europe. Second on discussing the future heat exchange market. Tor Björn Minde participated in a panel discussing if build out of AI could go in hand with Net zero. The realistic view on this is that it can not. It can't be netzero since summary of all combined sources of environmental impact needs to have minuses as well to even out all added impact.
