Jon Summers was invited by the Intelligent Data Centres/ DCA Global to give an expert insight in their Intelligent briefings series. The video was recorded at Data Centre World Lodon with Jon having one of his flowery shirts on.
In the video Jon talks about the EU H2020 project BTDC and explains key findings there. Then he continued with a potentially interesting project called Wedistrict. It is another EU funded project awarded to RISE. In the project RISE will demonstrate some new principles.
Jon also explains his view on what role the governments have in the greening and optimising the data centre sector. The funding of open development will be important but he also warns for uninformed decision by politicians. He continues also to talk about trusted information for the general public. They need to connect all their digital service use with the cost of energy and burden on the environment. The need for facts and correct information is important and that can be delivered by scientist and academic research.
Jon also adress the balance between sustainability and reliability. It depends on the use cases. Some are mission critical and others are of less importance. He also wants more beautiful data centres. It could help attract talent to the sector. He finally gives some insights to what to look for from the Data Centre World conference agenda.
